The end of VKernel, or is it?

Last month, VKernel, provider of performance and capacity management products, has announced its acquisition by Quest Software. I used to be a big fan of VKernel applications and applicances and on the other hand I wasn’t a big fan of Quest and its applications. OK, but why was this inevitable?

Well, that seems simple. They are now in a position to leverage Quest’s low expertise in application performance management, to continue the creation of credible alternatives to VMware vCenter Operations. Their combined products not only support multiple hypervisor types, but also provide visibility into both physical and virtual systems.

What will change?

Not much, VKernel will operate as a independent subsidiary of Quest. Most probably licensing will be adjusted to the Quest standard.
